Pitchfork: “Converge are this generation’s Black Flag.”
October 29th, 2009

In a pleasant surprise, taste-maker indie rock site Pitchfork have declared their love for Converge’s amazing new album “Axe To Fall.” They even go so far as to declare Converge “this generation’s Black Flag.” It’s a great compliment and one that rings surprisingly true. “How would I know” you ask incredulously? Well, I saw the legendary Black Flag perform many times, in all their various incarnations - from Keith Morris to a loin cloth wearing Henry Rollins. Sure, go ahead, let the old person comments fly. I can take it. But I’ll tell you this, when I first heard Converge, that was the first thing I thought of. They may not look or sound exactly like Black Flag, but they feel the same. Both bands come across as completely honest and authentic, something increasingly rare these days, and both utilize a frantic churning wall of sound to give listeners something akin to a total psychic and emotional catharsis. Read the Pitchfork review here and feel free to discuss.
