Whoa this is crazy.
Fron Alt Press: Pennywise lead singer and songwriter Jim Lindberg has announced that he’s leaving the group. Lindberg released this statement:
” After 20 years, nine albums and thousands of shows around the world, my time in Pennywise has come to an end. Being the singer for this band has been an amazing experience, and along the way we made some of the best fans anyone could ask for. There are few things that made me more proud than seeing people at our shows singing our songs, and it’s your support and encouragement that’s kept me going this long. I would sincerely like to thank everyone who helped us along the way and wish everyone in the Pennywise family the best of luck and continued success. Yours truly, Jim.”

I’m very said to hear Jim is leaving. I’ve grown up with Pennywise since I was 13. 17 years is along time but I’m greatful for the countless shows I’ve been too. Jims energy never wavered. Thanks bro.

I feel like this is the start of the end of real, true punk.
It saddens me that one of my favorite bands will be no longer(or at least without jim). I feel that the ideals of this band were strong and true. I personally feel that it was not only music that jim brought to the world but a real movement of thoughts and ideas! To question authority not just for a fight but to make the world a better place. Not to go to a show with a clash t shirt on for a fashion statement but to rally with others and let the world know that you intend to do something! jim motivated me to do something and not just give up.
August 22nd, 2009 at 6:34 am
Jim you should have listen to Bad Religion’s advice to all bands “Don’t quit”.
August 22nd, 2009 at 8:37 am
It’s really sad Jim decided to left Pennywise. But we all stand for the meanings of Pennywise. Even when Jim decided to quit, I wish him the best of luck and a great time with his family! He (and PW) gave us for 19 years some AWESOME music and I’ll be very grateful for that! They mean a lot to me because their messages helped me through all the bad (and good) times I have. Last year Jim took my hand in the middle of the moshpit, thanks for that memory!
Jim thanks for your voice and meanings, good luck man! Pennywise; see you soon

Sorry people but JIM is PENNYWISE!!!!! I don’t even want to see anyone else try to stand up and sing his words… Pennywise was more than just music to so many of us. Jim’s words of inspiration for when we feel down or when life has a problem thats hard to grasp, he could always lift you up, you can always throw in Pennywise and feel motivated, ready to change the problems in our world and take on any B.S. thats thrown our way. I think in a sense we all felt as if Jim was our singer and that he would always be here as our front man no matter what. “It is my badge of pride, hardcore till the day I die.” I honestly hope that everything is ok with Jim, however, it is very hard not to be upset and confused, I mean come on JIM is freaking leaving Pennywise. This is by far my favorite band not only for the kickass music but also for the commentary of the songs and the song writings of Jim. I guess I can leave of with a question in the spirit of skepticism: would the band RUSH be RUSH without Geddy Lee? Bad Religion without Graffin be Bad Religion, Nofx without Mike? Thank You Jim and Pennywise you guys are the best!!!

August 23rd, 2009 at 3:33 pm
So now the other guys in P.W. can be a band again. They wanna tour,Write music.Who cares ? Now they can get a singer who wants to focus on music not himself.
August 24th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
why is he leaving!!!!!!! he didnt give a reason
August 26th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Nothing personal against Jim, but he is pretty replaceable. There are bands like The Misfits and the Dead Kennedys that should never go on without the original singer, but imagine ALL never continuing without Milo or Scott or Dave? It would have been a waste.
Jim seems happy doing what he’s doing. Let’s give the band the benefit of the doubt and see what they can do.
August 26th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
The spirit of Pennywise is friends, family, brothers… whatever, sticking up for each other, never letting each other down. All ways on your side! That is Pennywise, not Jim. As fans and as friends we thank Jim for his contribution and wish him luck with his family and future. AND when a new lead singer comes in, we give him the benefit of a chance. If he sucks, has no balls, we let them know. If he stands tall and is worthy, we should accept him as though he has been in the band for 20 years!
Pennywise is about loyalty to yourself and your friends! That all!

I come back from vacation, and this is what I hear. Jim, thanks for the music, the crowds, the places I’ve seen you, and for that message you give us all. Live life the way we plan to…. Goodluck brother, see you around….

Very sad. Whoever PW gets as a replacement has some HUGE shoes to fill. I just hope they don’t try to mimic his voice cuz only Jim can pull off being “Jim.” Anyways, I think they need to now make the music more intense like the Straight Ahead and Full Circle albums to make up for the loss. The last thing us fans want is the music turning dull, boring and light…I really hope PW don’t pursue the sound of their most recent album, it doesn’t sound nearly as raw and intense like many of their previous albums…sellin out or obtaining a mainstream sound would suck.
ps-and let’s hope they make a REALLY WISE choice for a singer…I hope he doesn’t scream like death-metal or sound like a girly bitch. It’s gotta be a clear and nice voice, with the attitude, intensity, and energy that Jim had…just not Jim…though it would be cool if he came back haha…but I am excited to see where the band will go from here fo sho.

Holy shit. . . . . . . . . . I just got back from surfing in Nicaragua and heard this news. My heart dropped. Pennywise inspired me to do many things in life and in business, and I can’t F***ing believe this is happening. This is not happening. Pennywise keeps me level headed, and i take what they say to heart. This is INSANE! I always thought that these guys would be pumping out Penny-wisdom until the day i died. Rest in Peace Pennywise, because it won’t be the same without Jim. All i have left to say is . . . . . shit.

Thank you Jim Lindberg for everything you did for us, and that goes for you…
father can you hear me?
how have i let you down?
i curse the day that i was born
and all the sorrow in the world…
let me take you to the herding ground
where all good men are trampled down
just to settle a bet that could not be won
between a prideful father and his son
well you guard me now for i cant see
a reason for this suffering and this long misery.
what if every living soul could be upright and strong?
well then i do imagine there will beeeeeee
Sooooorroow
yeah there will beeeeeeee
Sooooorrow
and there will beee
Soooooorrow no more.
when all soldiers lay their weapons down
or when all kings and all queens relinquish their crown
or when the only true messiah rescues us from ourselves…
its easy to imagine there will be
Soooooorrow
Yeah there will beeeee
Sooooorrow
And there will beeeee
Sooooorrow no moreeee
There will beeeee
Sooooorrow
Yeah there will beeeee
Soooorrow
And there will be
Soooorroooow no more
hope to see you one day playing with pennywise again,
be strong buddy never back down…

jim I’m not believing it, hope you change your mind that neither was the case with Zack de la Rocha in ratm, pennywise is not a band but a religion
October 5th, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Looking forward to the next book. Thank you for the memories and challenging me to have independent thought. No doubt Pennywise will not cease to be, but it will be strange hearing another voice and different song structure.

crystal had it right: the true punk band.
She nailed it on the head…The only SOCAL/SURF/SKATE PUNK. true punk. Im 32 and this is real punk. Talking about society, politics and religion…Things that matter and shap our world. Jim was the voice. PENNYWISE is my favorite band of all time. Without Jim to show the world what punk music is, we are left with the ever changing and metamorphisis of PUNK INTO SCREAMO. You’ll be missed dude…Hopefully he starts a new band, call it JimmyWise.

This is the worst news I’ve had all month!!
That bites!
March 5th, 2010 at 12:19 am
WTF!!!! Seriously?! I never once fathomed the possibility that PENNYWISE would ever break up. I was lucky enough to see em jam a few times but for the best was at the KROQ Tsunami relief fund back in the early 00’s. Pvt. show with the band. This news is just as bad as seeing the destruction that the tsunami did… Okay maybe not that much, but DAMN, this was the last thing I was expecting. I had been waiting for years since I moved from SoCal to NorCal to see em… Years! Why I didn’t go to their website and find out this horrific news sooner is beyond me.
Well, if this is the way it is, I’m glad you guys did what you did when you came together. The five of you made some of the best music for me to listen to when I was growin’ up in a pretty hostile enviornment. Don’t know where I’d be w/o the lyrics and music that help develope me into who I am today. I’ve enjoyed the ride. Best of luck to all you coming, and going.
March 5th, 2010 at 10:17 pm
well I’m way late on this but I gotta say it anyway…there ain’t no pennywise w/o jim so good luck boys in the band – it’s over. Not that they should ever worry. Fletcher and the crew have the talent and status needed to re-establish themselves in minutes of finally killing off the group. It was a great ride and I was honored to share the stage with them during the best of times. Bro Hyme forever and ever….
March 6th, 2010 at 8:25 am
Things change, and people drive different ways, I can honestly say this brought a tear to my eye, as I feel i’ve changed also….The memories I have, and some strong beliefs I have will never change….Pennywise has made a strong influence and has been there for me my entire life.

It sucks he’s gone because they put on great live shows but honestly I forgot about these guys. They haven’t put out anything good for a while but at least they got ignite’s lead singer. I like his vocals.
